They hid from Stormtroopers in Han Solo's secret smuggler compartments. They immediatly retreated to a room, barracading it. Obi-Wan commanded that they stay put while he turned off the Tractor Beam so they could escape. Soon after his departure however, they discovered that the princess of the Rebel Alliance was soon to be executed imprisoned in the Death Star. Defying Obi-Wan's orders they left to save her. They managed to rescue her and fly away safely. Although after a breif encounter with Darth Vader, Obi-Wan was struck down.

After returning to the Rebel Base, unaware of the traking beacon planted on their ship, they discovered that the Death Star was not far behind them. The Rebel's sent out their heroic X-Wings to destroy it before their base became in range. Luke was in command of one of these fighters. Han returned, after claiming he would never come back, and destroyed the 3 Tie Fighters on Luke's tail. Luke destroyed the Death Star through an exaust pipe, which was their discovered weak point. Han, Luke and Chewie were awarded for their bravery.

At the beginning of the 5th film Luke was almost killed by a Wampa (an unknown beast) on Hoth. A probe droid from the Empire discovered their presence and not long after, they were attacked. The Rebels retreated and Luke went to find Yoda, said to be a powerful Jedi. Yoda trained Luke to be a powerful Jedi but left against Obi-Wan (now a spirit) and Yoda's wishes after discovering that his friends were in danger. It was a trap however and he battled with Darth Vader losing one arm. His friends rescued him and they retreated to the Rebel's space base. 

At the 6th film he, Leia, Han and Chewie were entrusted with the task of destroying the sheild generator that protected the 2nd Death Star that was being built. Luke made a decision to face Vader and his master on the Death Star. He battled with Vader defeating him. But after his refusal to turn to the Dark Side the Emperor, Vader's master, tortured him with force lightning. Vader realised his mistake in life and destroyed the Emperor. Vader died soon after. Luke retreated back to Endor just before the Rebels destroyed the Death Star. He cremated his father in the traditional Jedi way back on Endor.   

Nothing is known after this, besides the fact that he is alive 30 years later saying, 'The force is strong in my family. My father had it... My sister has it... I have it... You have that power too.' This is shown at the beginning of the trailer for Star Wars Episode VII.
