Plot

 

The movie opens with Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi trying to negociate with the Trade Federation who had blockaded the planet of Naboo. The Jedi end up fighting their way to escape, discovering that they had an army prepared to attack Naboo with. Meanwhile the Queen of Naboo had been captured by an attack from the Trade Federation. They save a Local Outcast named Jar Jar Binks who is a Gungan. He leads them to an underwater Gungan city where they plead with their leader for help to save her. He refuses and instead lends them a submarine to get them to the city centre. Jar Jar helps lead them there. They arrive and rescue the Queen escaping on a star ship. Attacks by the Trade Federation, however, destroy hyperdrive. They are forced to land their ship on a nearby planet named Tatooine.

 

When they arrive there they try to buy a new hyperdrive, but due to the fact Qui-Gon Jinn only had Republic Credits which were worthless on Tatooine, Watto the shop assistant, refused to sell it to them. They befriend a slaved, young, boy called Anakin Skywalker who had excellent reflexes and is unaware of his Jedi arts.  Qui-Gon places a bet on Watto, if Anakin wins a pod race, he gets the hyperdrive, if Anakin loses Watto gets to keep their ship. A further bet allows Qui-Gon to keep Anakin if he wins the race. Anakin wins and they escape Tatooine after Qui-Gon had a breif lightsaber duel with Darth Maul, a sith Lord believed to be long lost.

 

They fly to Coroscont where Qui-Gon requests to train Anakin, who has so many medichlorians that it is off the scale (Medichlorins are the force inside something). The concil refuses due to fear in the boy, which can lead to the dark side. Very soon though they fly back to Naboo because Queen Amidala wanted to help her people who were apparently struggling due to Trade Federation attacks.

 

When they arrive they gather an army with the Gungans to defeat the Federation. Anakin Skywalker is the saviour of the day when he accidently took of on a Star Fighter and destroyed the Flagship, which shuts down the droids. Meanwhile, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi have a lightsaber duel with Darth Maul, a Sith Lord. Qui-Gon sacrafices himself, so Obi-Wan could kill him. In the end the Sepratists Invasion of Naboo was unsuccessful and everybody celebrated.
