Previously a Jedi, Sith Lord Darth Vader helped his master take over the galaxy and form a Galactic Empire. Dressed in a black, life support suit Vader towers over most enemies, making him a feared Sith Lord. 

 

His turn from the Jedi order began when he accompnied the murder of a fellow Jedi to save his soon-to-be Master, Darth Sidious, from death. From then on he did whatever his master ordered, and in return Sidious trained him to be a Sith Lord. 

 

His first task as a Sith was to go to the Jedi temple and kill all Jedi, even younglings. He did so without second thoughts. Obi-Wan his previous master battled with him on Mustafar shortly after he murdered the remaining Sepratists. Obi-Wan sabered off three limbs, and incinerated him alive. This is why appears in a life support suit in the following episodes.

 

During the 4th film, Darth Vader is entrusted with the mission of retrieving the stolen plans for the Death Star. He fails, which leads to the destruction of the humungous Battle Station. 

 

Throughout the 5th and 6th film, he attempts to turn Luke, his son and a Jedi, to the Dark Side. He takes Luke to Sidious, and for refusing to be trained as a Sith, Sidious began to kill him. Realising his mistakes Vaderturned back to the Light Side and kills his master saving Luke from certain death.
